# FeatureOS knowledge base and help center

Write, organize, and share a self-service help center. Public or private, collections and articles, AI search and summaries, embeds, and an in-app widget.

## How a help center stays useful

1. **Write**: Draft in the editor, or generate a how-to, FAQ, overview, or troubleshooting article. Preview before it goes live.
2. **Organize**: Put articles in collections. Public, private, or unlisted per collection so the library stays browsable.
3. **Publish**: Draft stays off the help center until Publish Now. Notify subscribers when the live article changes.
4. **Find**: AI Search, a direct link, an embed, or the in-app widget. An AI summary sits on top of the article.

## Public vs private

A public help center for customers. A private one for the team. Visibility is also per collection — public, private, or unlisted. Visibility options:

- Public help center on your portal
- Private knowledge base for the team
- Collection: public, private, or unlisted
- Unlisted articles
- Custom domain for the help center

## FAQ

### What is a knowledge base?

A knowledge base is the help center you publish so customers can help themselves — articles grouped into collections. In FeatureOS it lives as its own module: a portal page, an embed, or an in-app widget, with AI Search and an optional summary on each article.

### Can I share my knowledge base publicly?

Yes. Turn on Show Knowledge Base in Settings for a public help center. Enable Make Knowledge Engine Private to limit it to the team. Each collection can be public, private, or unlisted. Articles can also be unlisted.

### Can I embed the knowledge base on my website?

Yes. Copy the embed code from an article and paste it on your site. There is also a support widget — generate the script from Knowledge Base Settings — and a unique URL on every collection and article.

### Does FeatureOS have an in-app help widget?

Yes. The support widget is an always-available help icon inside your product. Users search and read articles without leaving the page. The snippet lives under Knowledge Base Settings.

### Can I use my own domain?

Yes. Map a custom domain in Knowledge Base Settings so the help center lives at something like knowledge.example.com instead of the FeatureOS URL.

### Does the knowledge base support multiple languages?

Yes. Articles can be written in multiple languages, and FeatureOS AI can translate them. The knowledge base supports the same 21 languages as the rest of the product.

### Does search answer questions or just list articles?

AI Search (enable it in Knowledge Base Settings) interprets the question and surfaces the most relevant articles and answers — not a long keyword list. It is search over your docs, not an Intercom-style chat bot. Each article can also show a one-click AI summary.

### Can readers comment, react, or subscribe?

Yes. Turn on comments (with optional moderation), reactions, subscriptions, and per-article FAQs in Knowledge Base Settings. Publishing an update can notify subscribers. The Activities tab is team-only — edits, not a public feed.

### Can I import an existing knowledge base?

Yes. Growth and above include a Zendesk import. For other sources, email support@featureos.app and the team will help with the migration.

### Can I add custom CSS to the knowledge base?

Not yet. You can brand it with logo, colors, welcome title and message, and a footer logo and message. Custom CSS is not documented as available.
