What is Canny.io used for?
Canny.io is used to collect customer feature requests, let people vote on them, and turn the winners into a public roadmap and changelog. It's a feedback-management tool for product teams who want one place to see what customers are asking for.
What Canny is, and who uses it#
Canny is a product-feedback platform. Product managers, founders, and customer-facing teams at SaaS companies use it to stop tracking feature requests in spreadsheets, Slack threads, and support inboxes. Instead, requests land on a shared board where customers and teammates can vote, comment, and follow along.
Pricing starts at $19/month on the Core plan, and the model is per tracked user: you pay based on how many customers interact with your board.
What Canny is actually used for#
Four jobs cover most of what teams do with Canny:
- Feature-request boards. A public or private board where customers post ideas and requests in their own words.
- Voting. Upvotes show demand, so you can see which requests matter most instead of guessing.
- Roadmap. Accepted requests move into a Now / Planned / Complete view customers can follow.
- Changelog. When something ships, you announce it and close the loop with the people who asked.
Around those, Canny adds a feature-request widget, a Slack integration, an API, data export, and prioritization scoring. It's focused, and it does feedback well.
Where teams outgrow it#
Two things push teams to look elsewhere. First, the per-tracked-user pricing: the more customers engage with your board, the more you pay, which taxes the exact growth you wanted. Second, the scope. Canny does feedback, roadmap, and changelog, but it doesn't include a knowledge base or surveys and forms. So you end up buying and stitching together separate tools for docs and structured input.
How FeatureOS covers the same jobs, plus more#
FeatureOS handles every job Canny does, feedback boards, voting, roadmaps, and changelog, then adds a knowledge base, forms and surveys, and AI for summaries and duplicate detection in the same platform.
The pricing model is the real difference. FeatureOS is flat, with unlimited end users and no per-tracked-user fee. Plans run Starter, Growth, Business, and Enterprise, with a 30-day trial. Your bill doesn't climb because more customers showed up to vote.
If Canny's four jobs are all you need, it's a solid tool. If you want those jobs plus docs and surveys without a growth tax, it's worth comparing.
